Charlotte’s Sophomore Sensations

In Charlotte, an exceptional cohort of 2027 players is emerging, deserving of every bit of recognition! This class is brimming with under-the-radar talent making a remarkable impact this season. I want to take a moment to celebrate their impressive performances and award them the appreciation they truly deserve!

RJ Moore (6’5, Guard, The Coravian Day School)
RJ is a standout talent with the potential of a Division-One player. His combination of height and remarkable three-point shooting ability makes him a formidable presence on the court. As a true ball handler, his athleticism coupled with his size allows him to dominate the boards, resulting in electrifying coast-to-coast layups. With exceptional ball-handling skills, he glides through defenders, leaving them scrambling and unable to contest his shots. In every sense of the word, he is a scoring machine, capable of lighting up the scoreboard.

Sean Nix (6’4, Guard, The Cannon School)
Sean epitomizes the term “sharpshooter.” His proficiency in driving to the basket is complemented by a relentless pursuit of scoring opportunities, making him a formidable prospect here in Charlotte. Primarily used off the ball, his lethal scoring capability allows him to exploit defensive weaknesses, and he consistently demonstrates an ability to create his own shot. With remarkable versatility, Sean can score from all corners of the court, including a deep-range shooting prowess that keeps defenders on their toes.

Zeke Battier (6’6, Forward, Providence Day School)
The name might ring a bell—Zeke is the son of NBA and Duke legend Shane Battier, and he has certainly inherited a wealth of talent. As a two-way forward, Zeke’s shooting ability is complemented by his finesse around the rim, making him a vital contributor to Providence Day’s quest for a 4A title. His basketball IQ and understanding of the game reflect his lineage, and you can often see him making impactful plays on both ends of the floor.

Tre Williams (6’3, Guard, Hickory Ridge)
Tre is a personal favorite of mine; he’s what we affectionately call a BIG GUARD. Unlike the typical quick and shifty guards, Tre blends agility with remarkable strength, creating matchup nightmares for opponents. He possesses the unique ability to overpower most guards while showcasing the craftiness and explosiveness that makes him difficult for forwards to handle. His consistent three-

point shooting demands respect from defenders, compelling them to extend their coverage to the perimeter and thus opening pathways for him to attack the rim with confidence and finesse.

James Midland (6’5, Forward, Concord Academy)**
James has been a key architect of Concord Academy’s success this season, emerging as the leading scorer for his team. He is just beginning to tap into his vast potential. His infectious energy and enthusiasm on the court inspire his teammates, creating a positive ripple effect throughout the game. Though his slender frame lends itself more comfortably to playing on the perimeter than in the post, he possesses a complete skill set that makes him a proficient wing scorer. With a silky shooting touch, impressive footwork, and an active presence on the boards, James adeptly deters shots in the paint, leading to bad shot selections and turnovers for opposing teams.

These young men are just a glimpse into the wealth of sophomore scholarship talent that Charlotte has to offer. I am committed to continuing to highlight as many of these rising stars as possible throughout the remainder of the season as we gear up for travel and club ball. To all the players out there, remember to KEEP WORKING—your hard work does not go unnoticed!
