Did Cooper Flagg’s special night propel him as the leader in the NPOY race?

In a historic night for Cooper Flagg his full game was on display. Leading the Blue Devils to an 86-78 victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Flagg’s performance was nothing short of special, he finished with 42 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists setting a new ACC freshman single-game scoring record.

Flagg was efficient and carried the blue devils offensive load at times. He hit shots from clover the court, but most inpreeeively was his 3-point touch tonight, he shot a respectable 4-6 from downtown and overall was 11-of-14 from the field, he attacked the rim with aggression which led to him shooting 17 tile free throws, converted on 16 of those.
In my opinion, Cooper Flagg’s performance against Notre Dame has propelled him ahead of Auburn’s Johni Broome in the National Player of the Year (NPoY) race. Flagg’s record-setting 42-point game not only showcased his scoring ability but also cemented his position as a frontrunner for the Wooden Award. Prior to this game, Broome was widely considered the favorite, with Flagg close behind.
However, the race has taken a dramatic turn. Broome suffered an ankle injury in his game today and was unable to finish. While the extent of his injury will be clearer after tomorrow’s MRI, initial reports suggest he could miss some time. Depending on how much time Broome is sidelined and whether Flagg continues his stellar play, the NPOY race could be all but decided in Flagg’s favor soon.
