Is Hustle and Will beating Skill?

Is Hustle and Will beating Skill?

With 14 games of Angel Reese Rookie Season of the WNBA what have we learned? Let’s start with some facts. Angel a 6’3 Forward still has only made one shot in the 16-24 feet range making it at a 7.7 fg% and is shooting 41.2% from less than 8 feet with 54 shots being made from that distance as well as shooting 57.1% from shots in the 8-16 feet from the basket with 4 makes. Angel is currently averaging 12.4 PPG, 10.8 Rebs, 2.1 Asts and 1.9 stl.

Still need to Develop

Critics still point out that there’s a need for development in shooting from the high post or just the Mid Range in general. Also Angel has expressed she wants to get more efficient from around the basket which could be contributed from some of the outside noise or she may just want to be better at that spot to limit some of the points she’s leaving at the rim. We all can all agree Angel with the developing a Mid Range and an occasional 3 can really open the floor for Angel as well as teammates. Defensively developing faster lateral movement would help when Angel has to switch on a guard on the perimeter she can stay in front of the ball handler.

The Unexplainable.

With the above development still being needed. Angel is currently on an 7 game Double Double streak which is the first time being done in the WNBA and currently has 8 double doubles out of 14 games scoring 10+ points in 12 of those games also. Angel is also the first rookie to score 100 pts and 100 Rebs in this years rookie class.

The Undeniable

Angel stand around the middle of the pack when it comes to the tallest player in the WNBA currently standing at 6’3 the scouting report tells the opposing team to keep her from getting around the basket offensively and box her out from getting the rebound. Yet today while this last paragraph is being written Angel Reese just played her 15th game where she snapped off scoring 25 points 16 rebounds and 5 assists while giving NaLyssa Smith and the Indiana Fever all they could have asked for. It’s simple… What Angel possess can’t be taught or managed, she has a hunger and will to win that can’t be stopped.  She tends to always know where the ball coming off the rim she fight tooth and nail to get into the right position for the rebound as well as on the offense she makes layups from tough angles great at passing out of double teams and finding an open teammate. As well as a motor that never turns off. Scariest thing is when Angel develops the skills critics are pointing out in that year 3 mark that most WNBA players flip the switch. Angel has the ability to be the best player in the league. That’s scary.
