Embracing his role as the team’s backbone, he has steered a gritty and talented roster through the relentless challenges of SEC play, widely regarded as the toughest conference in college basketball.

From Underdog to Alpha

Zeigler’s rise to becoming Tennessee’s floor general is a testament to perseverance and determination. Often overlooked by top programs due to his size, Zeigler burst onto the scene with a dominant performance in the Nike EYBL circuit, where he showcased his talent and elevated his stock while playing for his New York-based team. Joining the Vols as an under-the-radar recruit, he wasted no time making his presence felt with unmatched energy, exceptional court vision, and tenacious defense. Now in his senior season, Zeigler has transformed from a spark plug off the bench to the undeniable heartbeat of the team—and a beloved fan favorite.

Thriving in the Leadership Role

Taking on the mantle left by veteran guards, Zeigler has fully embraced the responsibilities of leadership both on and off the court. His growth as a vocal presence has been undeniable, consistently communicating with teammates, directing defensive assignments, and maintaining high energy throughout games. Zeigler has excelled at keeping the Volunteers organized offensively while spearheading their defensive efforts.

Now in his third straight season averaging double-digit points, Zeigler is having a career year, setting new personal bests across multiple categories, including 12.3 points per game, 3.5 rebounds, and 7.5 assists. On the defensive end, Zeigler has solidified himself as a nightmare for opposing point guards. His relentless on-ball defense has made life difficult for his counterparts, as they often find themselves dealing with his lightning-fast feet and quick hands, making every possession a challenge. Zeigler’s ability to disrupt and lock down opposing guards has become a defining feature of his game, establishing him as the tip of the spear for Tennessee’s elite, top-ranked defense.

The Scoring Punch

While Zeigler’s leadership has been invaluable, his offensive production has also taken center stage this season. Averaging career highs in both points and assists, he has emerged as Tennessee’s second-leading scorer, just behind Chaz Lanier. With his scoring threat and apparent green light to shoot, Zeigler has not only elevated his own game but has also opened up opportunities for his teammates. His ability to stretch defenses with his jump shot and keep them on their toes has been a game-changer, significantly boosting his playmaking and leading to a sharp rise in his assist numbers this season. In fact, Zeigler is currently leading the SEC in assists, with the next closest player averaging two fewer assists per game. As a dynamic dual-threat, his scoring and playmaking have become central to Tennessee’s offensive success, making him an even more dangerous weapon for opposing defenses to try and contain.

Zeigler is arguably the fastest and quickest player in college basketball, with a rare ability to penetrate defenses and finish around the rim with fearless determination. In last night’s game against Auburn, his aggressive playstyle was on full display. Despite having his shots blocked or altered a few times, Zeigler continued to relentlessly attack the rim, never shying away from the challenge. His unwavering aggressiveness kept the pressure on Auburn’s defense, forcing them to adjust to his relentless style of play.
