Who is Number 22 from Ola High School?

Tuesday December 10th at 7:30 PM I stumbled into a game at Ola High school and I saw this roughly 6’0 Guard wearing 22 the crowd kept calling “T.” He was fast, smart and the closest thing I’ve seen to a pure point guard at the high school level. Come look at the game with me.

After asking around the home side of the crowd I was pointed to where his family was sitting and that’s when I found out T is short for Terrian Haney, and this is who Terrian is…

Strengths

Speed- Extremely fast with and without the ball.

Command- Terrian brought the ball up every play either right before or right after he crossed half court he was calling the play and getting people in and out of their sets.

Passing- Terrian wasn’t looking to score he would call an iso get in the paint bring in the Defense and hit the open corner or center who was now open.

On ball defense. Unfortunately they was in a 2-3 defense but when he found his 1 on 1 moments he bullied the ball handler forcing a turnover, ill advised shots, or simply forcing the offense to reset by beating the handler to the desired spot.

Weaknesses

Lack of offense.Terrian offensive game is based so much on passing the ball I didn’t see his abilities. I would like to see him taking 2-3 shots a quarter and see what his PPG and scoring percentage looks like.

Hands discipline. Terrian plays a lot of the time with his hands down. With his speed I can see Terrian jumping passes and tipping passes and dribbles if he brought his hands up.

His mind. Terrian is thinking so much on the court I don’t think he allows himself to get a feel for the game and just play and react.

What impressed me the most about Terrian is something that can’t be taught. And that’s a clutch Gene. The game was pretty nip and tuck. Until Eagles Landing called a timeout with 4 minutes and 38 seconds left of regulation. After that timeout it became the Terrian game. He got 2 rebounds scored a bucket, forced a turnover, forced a bad 3 got a shooting foul made 1 free throw tipped an offensive rebound to a player who scored and beat the press a few times. Now did all of these stats showed up in the game? No but they needed that as much as they needed his teammates to put that ball in the basket as they did. That gave me confidence that he can play free and feel the game because all of that was simply feel.

I’ll definitely be finding out the schedule for the rest of this season to learn more about who is # 22 from Ola High School
