Adante Holiman: The Journey to Georgia Southern

The journey continues for guard Adante Holiman as he officially transfers to Georgia Southern. The point guard has continued to display high-level play during his first two seasons at UTRGV and UTSA. As he heads to his third school, Holiman looks to continue to elevate his game and contribute at a higher level.

The college journey has been an interesting one for Holiman. This is a four-star athlete who displayed a sensational high school career at McAlester, where he was a scoring machine and one of the top talents in the state of Oklahoma. Holiman’s first two seasons of college have been a learning experience, to say the least. Throughout the highs and lows, his mindset has been to continue to get better moving forward.

I’m sure many people expected Holiman to blossom into a star player. He has the skillset and IQ to become a highlighted player in this country who can be nominated for multiple awards. However, things have gone in a different direction for Holiman. He’s had golden moments where he’s shined as the team’s best player on the court. But a player of his caliber deserves a bigger opportunity.

There was a difference in Holiman’s play from his freshman season at UTRGV compared to his sophomore year at UTSA. As a freshman, he displayed more ball-handling ability. Holiman had the chance to create as a point guard and initiate the offense. With that being said, he was able to display his style of play from perimeter scoring, playmaking, and finishing around the basket.

However, there was a change as Holiman transferred to UTSA. Sure, he was still the starting point guard for the team. The question is how much point guard duty did Holiman have? The sophomore guard was more utilized as a spot-up shooter than a true playmaker. It is something that Holiman is great at but it’s important that a coach plays him at his full potential. This past season, the Roadrunners finished with a disappointing 11-21 record, placing them toward the bottom of the AAC rankings.

After the season, Adante Holiman entered the transfer portal again. The sophomore guard averaged 7.5 points during his one season at UTSA and had six double-digit scoring performances. As Holiman entered the portal again, the goal was to find a landing spot where he could continue to develop as an all-around guard. After Holiman entered his name into the portal, several programs looked to recruit the young guard.

Luckily, the Georgia Southern Eagles were a team that had Holiman’s best interest. This is a school that is looking to regroup after finishing at the bottom of the Sun Belt rankings. A piece they could use on their roster is an experienced point guard who they can trust to carry the offense and be an elite playmaker. With that being said, Holiman made his commitment to Georgia Southern in early April.

Adante Holiman is a point guard who is a difference-maker. When given the opportunity, he can be a jack of all trades on the offensive end. He’s a terrific all-around scorer who can create and score efficiently. Holiman is also an elite floor general who can set up his teammates for easy opportunities. Playing at Georgia Southern could potentially be the turning point in Holiman’s college career. With him and the program on the same page, they have a chance to elevate the team to a better record from last season.
