The addition of a staff member in silent fashion has been a consistent development for the Kentucky coaching staff. As we know, the remaining spots to be filled had included an Assistant Coach position, General Manager role and Director of Video. In lieu of this, Coach Pope has detailed in interviews of their carefulness in who they add to the staff. Searching for staff members who possess a unique skill set or brings a fresh perspective that will positively impact the team, and not disrupt the synergy of the staff.
McLean was born in Nassau, Bahamas, where he eventually would move to Houston, Texas. He played his high school basketball at Second Baptist School an would earn a scholarship to play at the University of Houston. His professional career began as soon as his collegiate career concluded. In the almost 10 years, he has worked under Coach Kelvin Sampson (Houston) and Coach Alvin Brooks (Lamar University). After spending 5 seasons at his alma mater, he would follow then Assistant Coach of Houston, Coach Alvin brooks to Lamar University. There he served as an Assistant Coach, from April of 2021 to now. McLean has also served as an assistant Coach on the FIBA level for Team Bahamas. His experiences have equipped him with valuable knowledge and skills that have contributed to the success of the programs. It's clear that McLean has been involved in the behind-the-scenes work that helps teams achieve such success at Houston, even if his contributions may not always be as visible to the public.
In his collegiate career McLean navigated providing minutes off the bench while also being a stellar academic student at UH. As a student-athlete, he earned all-academic team honors and was awarded the Spirit of Service Award in 2013. That award is given to honor students who have achieved great community service and academic standing while being an athlete.

With his experience as both a player and a staff member at the University of Houston and Lamar University, he has a strong understanding of the game and the dynamics of a successful program.
