Sharpshooting Koby Brea Signs with Kentucky

In the transitioning of hiring a new Head Coach in Mark Pope, the University of Kentucky would also need to transition in to curating a whole new roster as well. With five of their six previous commits outside of Travis Perry, decommitting and going elsewhere, Coach Pope and staff have hit the ground running. And within the last 7 days they have picked their 5th commit for the 2024-2025 season.

Koby Brea signed with Kentucky after being recruited by Duke, Kansas, UCONN, and UNC. The sharp shooting guard from the Bronx, NY, received a heavy amount of interest when he entered the portal on April 16th. Brea entered the portal as one of the best shooting prospects regardless of level or position. This past season at the University of Dayton where he was awarded A-10 6th Man of the Year for the second time, he shot an amazing 50/88/50 shooting split and averaged 11 points a game off the bench. Which includes a NCAAT performance where Brea averaged 14.5 ppg and shot 9/18 from three in two games. More advanced stats provide that this year Brea was in the 100th percentile in catch and shoot situations with an outstanding 83% accuracy from the three-point range.

One can argue that the sharpshooting New York guard is more than just a shooter. Brea can put the ball on the floor and free himself up for a good shot as well help as a good position rebounder. He is also a willing defender, who simply just wants to win. As a matter of fact, even though the schools above were listed by Brea, the list of schools that reached out to him would be too many for us to name. But he focused on said schools because he simply wants an opportunity to win a National Championship and be a quality piece to said aspirations.

With this addition to the Wildcats, a much-needed offensive puzzle piece has been perfectly placed within. While most of the transfers currently committed to the Wildcats have been known for their great defense, Brea matches that respect on the other side of the court. Overall, the staff at Kentucky is constructing a roster that addresses many questions on both sides of the ball, and one that should compete in year one of Pope’s inauguration into the SEC.
