In the middle of a stormy Wednesday afternoon, word began to seep out that former South Carolina signee, Trent Noah would be signing with the University of Kentucky. This comes 24 hours after the announcement of his release of his letter of intent and declaring the primary reason is to stay close to home. Upon his release the three schools most namely mentioned, Kentucky, Louisville and Tennessee contacted the 3 Star Small Forward from Harlan County, Kentucky.
Noah, who finished his high school career 5th on the All-Time Scoring list in Kentucky, is also ranked in the Top 150 in his class. He originally chose South Carolina over Seton Hall, Butler, & WKU back in October of 2023. The 6’6 SF is known for his shot making ability and good broad body frame. He is considered by some to be one of the best shooters in the class with a great understanding offensively. Also making an impression as a good passer and good IQ. This would be demonstrated during Harlan County’s Kentucky Sweet 16 run. A month ago, thousands watched Trent Noah put on a fantastic performance in Rupp Arena. He averaged 32ppg 10rebs and 3ast, while shooting19/34 (56%) from the Three-point line and 32/36 (89%) at the stripe. All this was done as he helped lead Harlan County to a State Championship appearance where they would fall short to fellow future teammate Travis Perry and Lyon County. This created a buzz on social media about how the Kentucky kid is headed out of state to an inner conference opponent.
Noah grew up a Kentucky fan and has attended different games while also being able to meet former players. And like most kids from the state of Kentucky, he had the dream of one day being able to wear blue and white and represent the state of Kentucky. With a new staff in Lexington, the likely hood increased.
The thought is that Noah will be a depth piece who will be part of a sustainability plan for Kentucky. With the NIL and Transfer portal creating a wave of issues in roster retention, having such building blocks like Noah is a great addition. He has the body frame and shooting touch, and IQ that makes him a perfect fit for Coach Pope’s system. And with the opportunity to go against veteran players; it is certain that before he leaves campus, he will develop and make his mark. Now, only time will tell if that will be sooner than later but most bank on it being down the line.
Also, with him now onboard, this is the first time Kentucky has had two in-state kids on scholarship since Dominique Hawkins and Derek Willis, back since 2015-16. Let the record show that Kentucky has never won a title without a Kentucky kid on the roster, and I’m sure fans hope that this will one day prove to be right again.
