What Can Help Caitlin Clark and the Fever?

The WNBA 2024 season has officially started and with seven games played Clark is averaging 16.7 PPG 5.5 RPG and 6.2 APG and a whopping 5.2 T.O. Outside of the Turnovers without looking at the games these stats look pretty good for the start of a rookie campaign. Then we take a look at she’s shooting 38.3 from the floor and 30.8 from the 3 point line and there we will see these games have been a struggle.

After observing the first 7 games it boils down to a few things. 1. The schedule makers did Indiana and Caitlin no favors by having the Connecticut Suns be the season opener with Dijonai Carrington being a long, fast, and physical defender on adding to all the great team and individual defenders on the Suns such as Thomas and Bonner. The Fever also ran into the Liberty twice and the Las Vegas Aces with Jackie Young being one of the best perimeter defenders in the WNBA and Kelsey Plum taking some of the minutes. 2. It feels like Caitlin falls into the trap of “give the people what they came here to see” mentality and she forces some shots she should easily pass up.

Looking at Caitlin body language she appears to get extremely frustrated when her shot isn’t falling and forgets she’s an amazing passer of the ball herself, standing at 6’0 Clark in long herself and is a great crasher of the boards at the guard position.

It’s personally felt if Clark comes in with an “I’m going to impact the game in other ways” mentality it can open her shot up more as well as clear up some lane for her to get easy points at the basket. All though Clark has increased her focus on defense, take a bigger step try to get the Fever running the floor more. Lastly, this not a Caitlin Clark call but Get Aaliyah Boston from off the low block some. Aaliyah worked on her shot can stretch the floor 15-18 feet as well as knock down an occasional 3 that will also help stretch the floor and help Clark and the Fever.
